The Role
The MATERIAL DESIGN INTERN will be a specialist on a short term, experimental CMF development program, with an opportunity to work closely with a multi-disciplinary design team. Under the lead of CMF design, your role will support the vision of the Material brief and provide engineering and mathematical support to the Industrial Design lead. While design minded, with a holistic consideration to a human driven experience; the MATERIAL DESIGN INTERN will specialize in solving for rapid prototyping on 3D modeling and printing iteration with the goals to trial and realize production-level material on preliminary a product prototype within a six month time-frame.
You either hold a deep understanding of mechanical engineering or industrial design with an expertise in computational 3D modeling. You are no stranger to working fast and systematically with a sense of curiosity and adventure that allows you to find accomplishment in trial and failure. Your path may have been a little different to get to where you are, and it may be unclear still to where you will go. This project is one of experimentation, but potential for great growth. The team you join embraces the quirk… of materials, design, and our team itself. Your attitude and fit with a highly collaborative and diverse team is as important to us as your skill.

Role to begin October 5th, 2020; exact start date is negotiable.
Key Qualifications
Superior command of physics and mathematical principles and how they pertain to 3D modeling in regards to a real-world material expression (refraction, strength, texture).
Deep understanding of Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design and/or the spaces between.
Curious, open minded and passionate about design, materiality & material processes.
Experience with Modeling Software; particularly Rhino & Grasshopper.
Experience with rendering software (our team uses Keyshot).
Portfolio or links to past projects that demonstrate applicable proficiencies.
For consideration, you must bring the following minimum skills and behaviors to our team:
Team minded, highly collaborative.
Able to embrace failure and experimentation.
