I am a goal setter. I enjoy setting SMARTER goals, and I enjoy achieving my goals. I might even be considered a bit of a goals junkie.
As I reflect on how I’ve achieved many of my goals, it all comes back to one simple question I ask myself when I go to bed at night:
Did I do at least one thing today that moved me closer to achieving a goal?
This might mean you:
- Had coffee with someone who could help you find a job
- Read a new book, article, or magazine about your desired job to stay up on the latest trends
- Attended an event where hiring managers are hanging out (with business cards and copies of your resume in hand)
- Asked an expert to review your resume and cover letter, to offer insights on how to make it better
- Wrote handwritten thank you notes to the last person you interviewed with
- Got up 30 minutes early to exercise
- or something entirely different!
Every day when you go to bed, ask yourself “Did I do at least one thing today that moved me closer to achieving a goal?”
Then make sure you do something tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day, that will get you closer to achieving your goal.
