This full-time, paid intern position is an entry level role designed to provide graduate students or recent graduates of undergraduate or graduate programs with an insider's view of international development at IFES. The Center for Applied Research and Learning team provides technical expertise and support on inclusive elections and political processes to regional program teams and local stakeholders. The Intern will provide support to IFES' Center team, focusing on political participation of young people and persons with disabilities. Work will be conducted remotely until IFES re-opens its headquarters office. Applications from candidates who live outside the D.C. metro area and work remotely for the duration of the internship will also be accepted.

Job Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of theInclusion Specialist, possible activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Draft articles for ElectionAccess.org, which may include conducting virtual interviews or researching recent developments in disability-inclusive elections.
  • Prepare factsheets on country-specific or regional disability inclusion programming and/or youth programming on an as needed basis using an IFES template.
  • Conduct research on disability-inclusive legal frameworks, identifying text that affects implementation of electoral rights for persons with disabilities, and research on global trends in access to legal rights.
  • Conduct research on and identify nontraditional funders for IFES youth programs.
  • Support planning and implementation of IFES outreach activities including a social media campaign for International Youth Day.
  • Support the development of a social media strategy and calendar for IFES' youth programming account on Twitter.
  • Contribute to IFES youth and disability social media campaigns and develop quote boxes to share on Twitter using an IFES template.
  • Represent IFES Center team in webinars and virtual events on youth and disability inclusion.
  • Provide other support, as needed, such as assisting Center team members to develop programmatic tools.
Education:
  • Recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program or graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college/university, Master's degree program preferred

Experience:

  • Relevant experience, familiarity, or interest in international development, disability rights, youth political participation or civic engagement preferred. Previous internship(s) experience with an international NGO, disability NGO or youth-focused NGO a plus.

Related Skills or Knowledge:

  • Passion for disability rights and/or youth political participation and civic engagement
  • Strong writing skills required
  • Working knowledge of ASL or another language a plus
  • Previous experience with social media campaigns or event planning a plus but not required
