Position Description

Head of Investment IT (AAM)

Company and Divisional Description:

This position will be with AEGON Asset Management, the organization which oversees asset management for many of Transamerica's insurance and operating companies as well as third party clients. The global AEGON Asset Management organization has operations in Europe, the United States and Asia. Primary offices in the United States are located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Baltimore, Maryland. AEGON Asset Management and Transamerica are both part of the AEGON NV group of companies. The legal entities that comprise AEGON Asset Management US are AEGON USA Realty Advisors, LLC and AEGON USA Investment Management, LLC. AEGON USA Realty Advisors, LLC manages commercial real estate, commercial mortgage loans and other real estate related investments. AEGONUSA Investment Management, LLC, is a registered investment adviser that manages fixed income assets, including public bonds, private placements, derivatives and alternative investments.

Job Summary:
The AAM US Head of Information Technology is accountable for overall management and delivery of high availability, cost effective asset management information technology solutions and services that are designed to meet the current and long term business objectives of the asset management organization.
Primary Duties / Accountabilities

1. Align IT objectives and programs to AAM objectives and strategies:

  • Define and implement IT strategy
  • Align the objectives of the IT organization with overall enterprise performance objectives
  • Align IT risk management with broader enterprise risk management
  • Create and execute a communication plan for keeping the organization informed about technology solutions and direction.

2. Develop and implement an enterprise architecture that is designed to support the strategic direction of the asset management business, including business, infrastructure, data and application architecture.

  • Define and implement standards and architectures
  • Utilize a consistent process across the organization
  • Optimize cost of services through a mix of internal and external resources
  • Create IT centers of expertise

3. Develop a talent management program for the department that is focused on:

  • Maintaining a knowledgeable, experienced, flexible pool of technology professionals to support the business
  • Ensure appropriate talent management tools such as cross training and succession planning are used to ensure business continuity and employee development
  • Ensure all components of the performance program are executed in a timely, effective manner

4. Deliver high availability, cost effective asset management information technology solutions and services:

  • Ensure systems are reliable, accurate and meet business demands
  • Define and implement metrics based on overall business objectives
  • Maximize the mix of in-house versus outsourced services
  • Establish and manage strategic service provider partnerships including AGT
  • Effectively manage overall technology costs for the organization
  • Ensure effective system development life cycle (SDLC) process is utilized to deliver solutions appropriate to meet business needs

5. Develop collaborative partnerships with other parts of the business to deliver value added solutions to business needs. Key partnerships include:

  • Partner with Data Management to deliver high quality, timely data to users in a secure, reliable manner. Create and implement a plan to turn data into actionable information in an effective, efficient process to meet the information needs of the business
  • Partner with Change Leadership to deliver seamless, business change initiatives
  • Partner with AAM IT organizations in other countries to deliver cross border solutions

6. Create an innovative, collaborative culture within Information Technology that is focused on providing creative solutions to solve business issues and continuously improve processes.

Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent training / experience required. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 12 to 15 years of experience in an investment management (strongly preferred) or financial services organization with a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience.
