Job Description

About Your Role:

Dotdash Meredith seeks a Vice President of Product who will help us build a world-class platform used by dozens of development teams driving innovation for more than 30 brands that reach over 200 million users each month. In this senior leadership position, you will drive the strategy for a wide array of Content, Data and User Services backend capabilities that power a significant portion of Dotdash Meredith's businesses. You'll report directly to the SVP of Product, Core Platform.

In addition to being a natural leader, our ideal candidate has a rare blend of deep familiarity with the publishing landscape, a sophisticated understanding of media-related technologies, and an innate curiosity that will inspire these teams and produce enduring value for the business. Experience with technologies including graph databases, workflow engines, ETL pipelines and IdP systems is strongly preferred.

As well, fluency in the rapidly expanding field of Generative AI technologies is desired, as this is an emerging area of strategic focus for the company. Familiarity with LLM offerings including ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney, and frameworks that support LLM-based application development such as TensorFlow, LangChain and Langfuse would elevate a great candidate to an excellent one. However, trend-chasers need not apply.

About Your Contributions:

  • Product Vision and Strategy: Articulate a product vision for the Services teams that ladders up into the overall core platform vision and keeps the teams' work aligned to company-wide business goals and priorities. Anticipate emergent business needs and evolve the product strategy to ensure Services teams are always focused on the most important work.

  • Planning and Alignment: Work with individual contributor PMs, technical leaders and stakeholders to build a cohesive and ambitious living roadmap for the capabilities of our core platform to best serve the current- and future- needs of the business and our users.

  • Driving Results at Scale: Ensure that initiatives either led or supported by Services teams are completed expeditiously and to a high quality standard. Ensure that platform initiatives innovate ahead of business needs wherever possible.

  • Technical Grasp: Understand Dotdash Meredith and vendor APIs, their usage, and their impact on the platform ecosystem. Anticipate the impact of emerging technologies and their potential applicability to the platform.

  • Developing People: Support, empower and grow a talented team of product managers who own a diverse landscape of APIs and backend systems. Respectfully challenge them to become the best versions of their professional selves in ways appropriate to their current career arcs.

  • Product Development: Work cross-functionally with agile teams to develop, launch, optimize, and maintain/retire features in a fast-paced environment; make the call on desired product functionality and make real-time decisions to ensure that we are on track to meet business goals.

About You:

  • "Platform thinking" is part of your DNA. You naturally build for scale and reuse, always thinking ahead to the longer-term.

  • You possess an innate desire to collect, synthesize, and analyze data to inform your decision-making.

  • You are familiar with the varied ways audiences discover, engage with and consume digital content and data, and apply that knowledge to inform the development of new platform capabilities.

  • 10-15 years of hands-on product management-day-to-day product ownership and ideation. Previous experience working with APIs and data stores preferred.

  • 3-5 years as a manager, preferably of other product managers.

  • You're excellent at communicating and collaborating with a wide range of teams and stakeholders to build great products.

  • You're able to juggle the needs of multiple stakeholder groups and develop strategic plans for each.

  • You have a passion for figuring out- and resolving- user problems and pain points.

  • You're capable of developing a big-picture product strategy for meeting business needs, selling it, and then working out the details to get the plan over the finish line.

  • You're fluent in Agile principles and methodology.

  • 3-5 years of programming experience is strongly preferred.
