Manager - Clinic Laboratories

The Manager-Clinic Laboratories functions as the Outreach Liaison between the laboratory and its clinic clients. The Manager-Clinic Laboratories also manages the Shared Services laboratories at United Medical Park, North Crossing, Urology, Cancer Center, and Prairie Parkway along with Histology and Cytology at the Main Allen Lab Campus.

Primary duties include managing technical staff in daily operations for the Shared Service laboratories and histology and cytology, consulting clinic laboratory clients, performing competencies for clinic client and ensuring they maintain compliance for all regulatory agencies.

The Manager-Clinic Laboratories is a 50% UPH-Waterloo Allen Hospital position and 50% UPC position.

Qualifies as a General Supervisor and Testing Personnel under the Federal Register Sec 493.1461 and Sec 493.1489

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for meeting department requirements for CAP, CLIA, and DNV accreditation in the Shared Services laboratories and histology/cytology departments.
  • Manages scheduling, human resource needs, rounding and performance evaluations of Shared Service and histology/cytology laboratory staff
  • Manages daily operations of the Shared Services laboratories and the histology/cytology departments
  • Serves as designee for Shared Services Labs for: QC review, Competency Assessment, Proficiency review and follow up and test methodology performance studies.
  • Assists with evaluation of new methods/products and developing policies and procedures
  • Responsible for scheduling/organizing/directing community and client outreach programs
  • Assists with Investigation/Resolution/Documentation of Quality Assurance issues as related to processing and outreach via RL
  • Assists with review and development of laboratory budgets
  • Responsible for ordering supplies and reagents for the Shared Service Laboratories
  • Perform other duties as requested
  • Assists clients in meeting requirements for CAP, CLIA, and DNV accreditation. This includes instrument maintenance, instrument function checks, and calibration. Assists in monitoring Quality Assurance, Proficiency Testing, and Quality Control. Assists with maintaining of Laboratory Manuals. Assists clients with orientation/training/competency assessment of associates as necessary
  • Laboratory Technical Consultant/liaison to UPH clinic labs and UPH Grundy County Laboratory.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in chemical, physical, biological sciences or degree in clinical laboratory science or medical technology degree from an accredited institution
  • or
  • Qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec 493.1489 & General Supervisor under Federal Register Sec 493.1461
  • 4 years experience in Medical Technology within a clinical laboratory setting in the last 10 years
  • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • MLS/MT (ASCP) (non regulatory)
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Knowledge of CAP, CLIA and other lab and hospital regulations
  • Must possess basic computer skills and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser
  • Must be competent with Hospital Information Systems and Laboratory Information Systems.

Preferred:

  • Previous laboratory lead or supervisor experience within the clinical laboratory setting
