Overview

The Physical Therapy Technician (Tech) works with the therapists and front office staff in the daily operations of the department, including ordering patient care/office supplies as approved, and communicating with patients, families, nurses and therapists. The Tech performs modalities as requested and supervised by the Physical Therapist/Physical Therapy Assistant. Assists with scheduling patients, maintaining good patient flow, transporting and transferring patients, cleaning/disinfecting equipment, keeping the treatment area stocked and clean, and answering phones as needed.

Responsibilities

Physical therapy treatment interventions

  • Assists the therapists or therapist assistants in patient care, performing modalities as requested and supervised; transporting patients to/from clinic treatment areas.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with the therapists to ensure appropriate treatment interventions.
  • Communicates with patients, families, and staff as appropriate.

Department Infection Prevention

  • Cleans and disinfects therapy equipment according to clinic schedule.
  • Maintains proper cleanliness and stocking of all treatment areas.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

Clerical Support

  • Schedules patients and maintains patient flow.
  • Answers phone utilizing proper etiquette.
  • Orders and stocks patient care office supplies as approved.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

Qualifications

Education:

High School diploma or GED

Experience:

* Prior healthcare experience.

* Experience with specialized therapy equipment appropriate to specialized care.

License(s)/Certification(s):

* BLS within 3 months of hire

* Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

  • Shift: Monday - Friday, 8 hour day shift, for 80 hours per pay period. There is a holiday and a weekend rotation.;
