Position Description:

The University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is recruiting for an adult cardiac surgeon to join its highly regarded team. This position is at the Assistant/Associate Professor level and may be either in either the tenure or clinical (non-tenure) track dependent upon the qualifications and goals of the individual.



The Division of Adult Cardiac Surgery at the University of Iowa Health Care is the premier adult cardiac surgery program in the State of Iowa and has a long-standing tradition of excellence and innovation in its tri-partite mission of patient care, education, and research. Our surgeons specialize in the treatment of the most complex cardiac surgery patients and provide a wide breadth of surgical treatments including reoperations, robotic coronary surgery, complex multi-valve operations, transcatheter therapies (TAVR, Mitra-Clip, etc.), heart & lung transplant, LVAD and ECMO. Our program was the first in Iowa to perform pulmonary thromboendarterectomy and minimally invasive LVAD. Our surgeons are also committed educators for the future generations of adult cardiac surgeons and carry forward the strong legacy of the University of Iowa Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program (traditional track and Integrated I-6). Our faculty are also dedicated to advancing the field through innovative research focused on the development of novel therapeutic approaches, medical devices, and understanding of current treatments for complex cardiac surgical problems.



As a member of a multi-disciplinary, institutional center, candidates will need to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, be committed to ongoing performance improvement, and possess outstanding abilities and skills in teaching and clinical medicine.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



Education Requirement:

Medical Doctorate or equivalent is required

Required Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience or an advanced fellowship and track record in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery and interest in aortic surgery, endovascular procedures, and trans-catheter aortic valve replacement.



Postgraduate training in an ACGME accredited thoracic surgery training program



Must qualify for an Iowa license



Experience in research at a level that enables procurement of outside funding is required for tenure track appointments.

Certifications:

Must be board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery

Desirable Qualifications:

0-5 years of experience
