Overview

We are seeking a Market Hospital Compliance Officer to join our team! In this role, you'll be responsible for executing the UPH Compliance Program locally in support of UnityPoint Health's strategies and initiatives. This position reports directly to the UPH Chief Compliance Officer with a dotted line to the Market President and Market Board.

Location: Hybrid- Cedar Rapids/Waterloo/Marshalltown.

Travel: Some travel within regions required.

Responsibilities

Summary of Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure appropriate execution, implementation, effectiveness, and oversight of the Market compliance program by serving as the Market Compliance Officer, maintaining collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and chairing/participating in the Market/System Compliance Committees.
  • Consult administrative leadership and operations to help ensure all Market services, policies, and procedures are in compliance with agency standards, regulatory mandates, accrediting bodies, and regulations as appropriate.
  • Develop and oversee implementation of appropriate compliance-related education based on identified compliance risks.
  • Coordinate internal investigations, in consultation with UPH Legal Counsel and UPH Chief Compliance Officer, related to compliance issues/concerns (including referrals from the Compliance Helpline) and compile information for review with the Compliance Committee to determine appropriate action.
  • Assess Market's risk and participate in the development of the annual UPH Compliance Work Plan, Market Compliance Work Plan, and resulting corrective action plans.
  • Work with the management team in the design and implementation of compliance initiatives to ensure adherence to compliance standards and consistent discipline as appropriate.
  • Work with the management team in the design and implementation of auditing and monitoring strategies to mitigate identified compliance risks.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred:
    • J.D. or Master's degree (e.g., healthcare administration, business, or finance)

Experience:

  • Required:
    • 5 years previous experience in health care compliance, health care agency, or government affairs
  • Preferred:
    • Hospital compliance experience

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Required:
    • Healthcare Compliance Certification (CHC) or obtained within the first year
    • Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Proven record of advanced skills in planning, problem solving and decision making
  • Strong analytic ability
  • Knowledge of personnel administration and patient relation principles
  • Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and systems
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of revenue cycle
  • Ability to relate to people in a manner to win confidence and establish support to meet the overall mission of the organization
  • Strong computer skills including knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software applications
  • Ability to be very detail oriented with the ability to manage incoming requests and provide reliable and timely responses
  • Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English

  • Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgment. Strong decision- making and problem-solving skills
