Overview

Full Time

Days: 8am-4:30pm

The Clinical Informatics Specialist's primary responsibility is a change agent working with end-users in the design, training and implementation phases of projects, as well as ensuring that appropriate procedures and processes are developed for sustaining the application of new systems and projects. The Specialist problem-solves utilizing analysis of report data to identify trends, identify workflow optimization opportunities, and utilize adaptive design principles. The Clinical Informatics Specialist is also responsible for education and support of end-users of clinical information systems. Other responsibilities include providing telephone and at the elbow support to end users within the enterprise and also to external customers (remote clinics).

Responsibilities

Data Integrity/Analytics/Reporting

  • Ensures that electronic health record systems and the documentation contained therein are in compliance with DNV, CMS and other regulatory standards.
  • Conducts audits of electronic health records to ensure documentation standards are being met
  • Applies broad clinical and systems knowledge in practice management, healthcare informatics, and clinical workflows to develop system tools, workflows and reports to optimize system use.
  • Participates in Chart Correction process to maintain integrity of patient record.

Staff/Customer Education/ Communication

  • Coordinates and provides education for use and functionality of the electronic medical record (EMR) system to new providers, enterprise employees, external users (clinics), patients and families.
  • Adheres to facility training guidelines when providing training
  • Facilitates regular ongoing communication and education with end users of the EMR.
  • Facilitates education related to implementation of changes in other clinical information system applications supported by Clinical Informatics Department.

Compliance

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for security and confidentiality of PHI. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of department director.
  • Communicates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.

Process Improvement

  • Identifies opportunities to improve documentation in the electronic health record: educates and collaborates with end users to enhance clinical documentation.
  • Utilizes research findings to improve patient outcomes using clinical information system applications.
  • Participates in UnityPoint Health System Clinical Service Groups, User Groups, and ad hoc groups to improve patient care processes and outcomes.

Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree from accredited nursing program
  • 2 years experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, SharePoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Above average critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Above average customer service skills.
  • Technical aptitude with ability to learn new electronic systems quickly.
  • Planning and organizing skills.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
