Job Description

Join our team as a Quality Assurance Technician! This role oversees and performs testing of materials to ensure that customer and internal specifications are met prior to their release for shipment. This role provides accurate test results and maintenance of laboratory data base and maintains a safe operating environment. This role rotates between 1st and 3rd shift with approximately 2 months on 1st, 1 month on 3rd.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees lab workflow and safe operation
  • Conducts all laboratory tests as needed to get the job done
  • Releases material for shipment
  • Determines test requirements for production testing and metallurgical work requests
  • Performs entry of test results in data base and designation of data to be certified to customers
  • Resolves timely shipment issues with inside sales, shipping and shop floor
  • Trains technicians and management trainees
  • Determines which non-conforming test results require metallurgical disposition
  • Verifies calibration of test equipment and takes corrective action when necessary
  • Formulates procedures for non-standard testing
  • Recommends changes and updates to test procedures when needed
  • Steps in as Lab Manager in absence and prioritizes test schedule assigning tasks to technicians
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Experience

  • 1-2 years of Quality Assurance Technician experience
  • Thorough knowledge of metallographic terms and concepts
  • Understanding of testing process flow, resource requirements and ISO/TS 16949 regulations
  • Mentoring and assessing employees within the framework of individuals; skills and proficiencies
  • Ability to interact with multiple computer systems to determine and communicate steel dispositions
  • Knowledge of and ability to enforce safe and environmentally responsible practices in the workplace
  • Capability to read and interpret public and internal specifications
  • Sufficient experience and knowledge to order retests based on interpretation of test results
  • Basic metallurgy and metallographic training provided
