Overview:
Advisors Excel is looking for an experienced Editorial Designer to work on our award-winning magazine, AE Insider. This role will collaborate with our creative team to conceptualize, design and produce the magazine. Our AE Insider features advisor success stories, business practice tips and the latest AE and industry news. AE Insider is an invaluable marketing tool. As Editorial Designer, you'll impact our advisors' businesses one remarkable issue at a time.
This position will work in our Topeka office and interact with our creative team. We are inspired everyday by a team of talented designers, writers, photographers and an amazing culture. What you'll do:
  • Lead the conceptualization and execution of the visual identity for AE Insider magazine
  • Develop and implement design layouts and page plans for the publication, ensuring visual coherence and reader engagement
  • Create and maintain design elements for all AE Insider collateral pieces, adhering to brand guidelines
  • Prepare print and digital files, ensuring they meet quality standards and technical requirements for publication
  • Manage daily workflow to meet deadlines and maintain publication schedule
  • Facilitate design revisions based on feedback and evolving requirements
  • Collaborate with our Photographer to plan and execute photo shoots featuring advisors
  • Edit and retouch photography to maintain visual consistency and enhance quality
  • Manage relationships with external print vendors, overseeing the print production process
  • Coordinate with printers to ensure timely delivery of the publication to readers
  • Undertake additional design projects for advisor offices as necessary
Experience you'll bring:
  • 3+ years' experience in graphic design, previous editorial layout experience required
  • An impressive creative portfolio that clearly shows knowledge and execution of strong
    graphic design and layout design
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain design thinking
  • Excellent skills with design software, primarily the Adobe Creative Suite
  • Willingness to take creative direction, adapt on the fly and offer solutions that drive to succeed
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and handle pressure
  • Be very organized, efficient and pay close attention to details while handling multiple projects
Bonus Points:
  • BA or BFA degree in Graphic Design or a related field
  • 3+ years' experience at an advertising agency or in a media/marketing environment
  • Previous experience with professional printers
